Full time position, varied hours include some evenings, weekends, 33
Sundays a year. Program year runs from Labor Day to 1st week in June
Goal:
The DRE will provide overall management, supervision and content of all
components of our growing religious education (RE) program for children
and youth.
Accountability:
The Director of Religious Education is accountable to the Minister. A
performance review will occur within first 6 months, then at one year
and yearly thereafter.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coordinate curriculum for preschool, elementary, junior and senior
high school classes.
Recruit, orient and support volunteer teachers.
Hire/recruit and supervise paid/volunteer childcare workers
(nursery) and coordinate childcare services for Sundays.
Provide leadership for goal-setting and for the development of a
philosophy of religious growth and learning for children and youth.
Create, monitor and administer annual RE budgets and recordkeeping.
DRE is responsible for nursery, and childcare, elementary, Jr High and
Sr. High budgets. In collaboration with Minister propose professional
expense budget as well.
Publish annual program prospectus, monthly board reports, monthly
newsletter column, and any other writings necessary to advocate for the
program and communicate about it.
Collaborate with the RE committee in planning and developing special
celebrations and events during the year with at least one annual
appearance in the pulpit.
Collaborate as needed with RE Committee in planning and recruiting
leaders and responsible management for summer lay-led program for
children.
Attend regular meetings with minister, staff, RE Committee, Board of
Trustees and Executive Committee.
Participate in continuing education and in collaboration with
Minister and DRE advisory Group develop and pursue R E credentialing
program recommended by UUA.
Insure the Safe Congregations guidelines are implemented in the RE
Program.
Qualifications Desirable:
Experience or degree in field related to education, human services,
etc.
Knowledge of Unitarian Universalist values and philosophy
Strong communication, organizational, administrative and volunteer
management skills
Demonstrated leadership skills
Demonstrated interest in working with children and teens
Compensation:
Annual Salary of $28,500- $30,000 DOE
Professional Expenses of $2300
Retirement plan contributions of 15% after one year of
employment
UUA Health Insurance plan available, allowance equal to 10% of
salary
