Love Resists: None of us are truly free when someone is in jail

Imagine you’re pregnant or a parent, and you’re in jail awaiting trial. You can’t afford bail. Your trial is scheduled for months from now. The sad truth is that there are thousands of individuals for whom this nightmare is a reality. They remain incarcerated, pre-trial, simply because they can’t afford bail.

Our Universalist faith makes it clear that no one is disposable and none of us are truly free when some of us are in jail.

Our partner, Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU), is joining other Black and Brown organizers to support those locked in jail as a result of our unjust money bail system with a live panel discussion and donation drive for much-needed baby supplies for women and families impacted by mass incarceration. Love Resists has been invited to join in this crucial initiative.

Are you ready to take action? Here are your next steps:

  1. Please gather a group in your community to participate in the Babies and Bailouts Watch Party and Donation Drive on Sunday, April 28 (or soon thereafter).
  2. If you identify as White, see our blog for information from Allies for Racial Equity on how to support and participate in this important endeavor.
  3. Once registered, BLUU will send you a guide to help prepare for your event and Love Resists staff are available if you have questions or need support as you plan.

Our criminal justice system is broken in so many ways. Join us to support our partners and organizers working to make communities more just.

In faith and solidarity,

The Love Resists Team
