  • Sue quoted Melinda Gates’ book, The moment of lift, how empowered women 
  • Plate Partner report – Tess
    • call her to join, since she’s out of town
    • Reported on voting
    • She sent an email to each group that was not selected by the vote of the congregation
  • Cathy Sandstrom from the Refugee and Immigrants Ministry team
    • There’s a group within BUUF that is looking at and doing planning on how to support one or more Asylum Seekers
    • There’s a plan for sponsoring for a  year
      • a family will provide housing
      • there is an official sponsor
      • a medical team
      • a proposed budget to get a ball-park figure of commitment 
      • There’s an organizational meeting on May 29th at Rev. Sara’s house
    • Sue suggested that the team look for a marketing person and develop a plan & goal
      • Tess could be a resource to a volunteer marketer, 
        • possibly Matthew Griffen
        • Tess will send Matthew’s info to Cathy Sandstrom
    • This project was brought up at the May congregational meeting
    • Perhaps it will also be featured at the Sept 21 Refugee & Immigrants Ministry
  • August Social Justice planning meeting, how do we get the best turn out?
    • Suggestion, Sat Aug 24 from 9 – 12.  Coffee and snack to start, a light potluck to end the meeting, here at BUUF.
    • developing an organizing document for the coming year w/ the social justice council as a coordinating group. 
      • what are the active areas, where are the needs.
      • want to have a voice from the groups.
    • do more planning in the June meeting for the august retreat
    • who would we want at the meeting:
      • EBT groups – patti and gary,
      • Shar Tesi or someone in the group
      • climate change
      • pride
      • refugee & immigrants
      • racial justice 
    • long term discussion for another time:
      • How to make a resolution be a spring board to action. 
  • BUUF Gun Safety Resolution and Mothers for Demand Action for Gun Sense
    • The resolution calls for the following actions:
      • Supporting community partners working on common sense solutions locally and nationally,
      • A public media campaign to make our voice, support, and adoption of this resolution prominent in our community (including but not limited to, press release, a letter campaign to lawmakers, opinion pieces, etc.)
    • Can we coordinate with the June 8th National Gun Violence Awareness Day event and Eyes for Art?
      • Wear orange
    • Jim will write a small article for the BUUF bulletin asking for people who wish to get involved to contact him.
  • Round Table:
    • Climate Action,
      • Dennis and Sharon Rockwood are co-chairs
      • team has developed a plan for next year
    • the safe parking lot program,
      • looking for a sponsor
    • Racial Justice,
      • Don: there a group forming and talking about mission/goals/vision
      • figure out what we want activities and goals to be done
    • Pride Ministry
      • taking over the month of June in the Sanctuary
      • at the pride festival and hoping for a partnership w/ hp for a photo booth
      • has had 3 meetings,
