BUUF members and friends have been regular volunteers for community-wide projects and events including Paint the Town, Rake Up Boise, Crop Walk, Idaho Pride Parade, Habitat for Humanity projects, Idaho Food Bank events, and more. Our children have raised funds for UU causes and organizations such as Heifer International, and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.

Rapid Response Team

BUUF Social Justice Council presents the Rapid Response Team. Our state and federal legislators move quickly, but so can we! You are invited to join. During November in 2018 the BUUF Social Justice Council organized a team to help respond quickly to state and federal legislative issues. Team members will help coordinate BUUF responses to issues of pressing importance using letter writing and other means as appropriate. The Idaho Legislature convenes in early 2019 and will likely address issues such as women’s health, refugees and immigration, education, and LGBTQ rights. This Justice meets from January-April. If you are interested in participating, please contact Jim Bigelow.

Interfaith Sanctuary

Since 2006, a volunteer team of BUUF members staff one of Boise’s homeless shelters, the Interfaith Sanctuary every Sunday night. Volunteers help with intake, answering the phone, and processing new applicants’ information. Volunteers work every Sunday, including all holidays. Contact Rick Groff for more information.

Saturday Market EBT Booth

BUUF volunteers staff the EBT booth at both main farmers markets in Boise, and have started working with the Boise Farmer’s Market Mobile Market (bringing fresh produce to food-deserts on the Boise Bench). Contact Patti Nakaoki for more information.

Crop Hunger Walk

BUUF members and friends participate in a Crop Hunger Walk each year, organized by Wanda Jennings.

Idaho Food Bank

BUUF volunteers participate in Idaho Food Bank backpack builds each year, usually on or around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The volunteers work to fill bags with enough snacks and meal items to meet a child’s nutritional needs over the weekend, when they are unable to receive free or discounted meals.

Habitat for Humanity

BUUF volunteers participate in a Habitat for Humanity build each summer. This year (2016) our volunteers helped build a home that is intended for one of Boise’s many refugee families. Habitat for Humanity is also one of our 2016-2017 Plate Partners. Contact Wanda Jennings for more information.
